In the sentences given above, the compound personal pronouns are used for the sake of emphasis and hence they are called emphatic pronouns. Emphatic pronouns are usually placed immediately after theĀ  noun or pronoun which they emphasize. Note that is some cases, the emphatic pronouns follow at a distance.

  • I saw the President myself. (OR I myself saw the President.)
  • He said so himself. (OR He himself said so.)
