What are Interrogative Pronouns?
- What is his name?
- Who is he?
- Whose is this bag?
- Which is the road to the railway station?
The pronouns who, whom, which, what and whose are called interrogative pronouns because they are used for asking questions.
Note that the interrogative pronoun who has different forms for the different cases.
Nominative case: who
Objective case: whom
Possessive case: whose
The interrogative pronouns what and which remain unchanged in all cases.
Interrogative Adjectives
The interrogative pronouns what and which can also be used as interrogative adjectives when they are followed by nouns which they qualify.
- Which road leads to the railway station?
- Which color do you like?
- What reasons can you give for that?
