Little, A Little, The Little
The adjective little means not much or hardly any. It has a negative meaning.
- There is little hope of his recovery. (= He is not likely to recover.)
- She showed little concern for her old parents.
A little means some, but not much.
- There is a little hope of his recovery. (= He may possible recover.)
- A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
The little means not much, but all of that much.
- The little information we had was not quite reliable.
- The little influence that he has, he uses to the best advantage.
