Present perfect continuous tense
Form: Subject + has / have + been + ing form of the verb
The present perfect continuous tense is used to talk about an action which started in the past, has gone on till the present and is still continuing.
- I have been working on this project for several months. (= I am still working on it.)
- It has been raining since yesterday. (= It is still raining.)
- The baby has been sleeping for three hours. (= The baby is still sleeping.)
This tense is sometimes used to talk about a completed action the effect of which is still felt.
- ‘Why are your clothes all wet?’ ‘I have been watering the garden.’
